Updates to the iGo2 Portable Oxygen Concentrator

Updates to the iGo2 Portable Oxygen Concentrator

, by Matt Walton, 2 min reading time

The iGo2 Portable Oxygen Concentrator by Drive Devilbiss Healthcare has undergone several significant changes over the last two years. There are five (5) oxygen settings in the standard operating mode, and a 6th setting available in the SmartDose mode. The SmartDose algorithm is a proprietary, patented method
to automatically adjust the amount of oxygen delivered to the patient during periods of increased oxygen demand, which is determined indirectly via changes in the user’s breathing rate and pattern. This adaptive approach intends to match the oxygen delivery to the patient’s demand.

The use of SmartDose has been shown in clinical studies to improve oxygenation, reduce respiratory workload, and improve endurance and walking distance in oxygen patients undergoing exercise. It is important to note that the number of settings (i.e., 1 through 6) on a portable oxygen concentrator (POC) is somewhat arbitrary and derived from each manufacturer’s mathematical assumptions around breathing rates, I:E ratio, tidal volume, and both anatomical and mechanical dead space. These assumptions are applied to key device specifications, including total oxygen production capacity, energy consumption, device size/weight, breath sensing, and bolus delivery to determine the number of settings, and the amount of oxygen delivered with each breath at a given setting. As a result, and which has been discussed extensively in the literature, one doesn’t equal one when POC devices are compared to each other.

The iGo2 also now comes with bluetooth capability.

The iGo2 comes with a car charger, wall charger, and carry bag as well as a 3-year warranty. The video below demonstrates the unboxing of the iGo2.
